If you find yourself going to the USA these days, whether you are a US citizen or a foreigner, you will be subjected to new security measures. This is the result of the terrorist attack Sept. 11, 2002. Now you have to make sure you arrive at least 2 hours early and if you are changing planes you should have at least 3 hours between flights. to get through security or you will miss your connection.
At every security check you have to take off your coats and jackets and put them into a basket, along with keys, money, any carry-on bags, purses, backpacks, etc. There are huge lines while people wait to get everything gets x-rayed and once you get through that you have to put everything back on.
The security people randomly select (by computer) people from the waiting lines to go to a special area for a more thorough check. On our trip this Christmas, I was picked to do this. They took a scanning bar and passed it over me—front, back, and in between. They opened my marsupial and my backpack, unzipped every pocket, and checked everything. They made me take off my shoes and scanned these too. It took about 20 minutes and it was embarrassing. I felt like a criminal.
It doesn’t surprise me that the fastest growing industry in the USA is the security business!
Se stai viaggiando nei Stati Uniti in questi giorni, se sei un extra-comunitario oppure un cittadino americano sei disposto a passare per nuove misure di sicurezza. Questo è anche grazie all’attacco terroristico accaduto l’ 11 settembre.
Adesso devi arrivare per forza almeno 2 ore prima della partenza dell’aereo e se devi cambiare volo, l’imbarco del secondo aero deve essere 3 ore prima del primo.
Ad ogni check-point di sicurezza devi togliere la giacca e i mettere i bagagli e passare metal-detector . Molte volte ai aeroporti più importanti ci sono grandi file e bisogna aspettare anche per un’ora. A partire dal 1 gennaio 2004 i stranieri che vogliono visitare gli Stati Uniti devono anche registrare la loro impronta digitale.
Le guardie di sicurezza selezionano col computer alcuni passeggeri aspettando nella fila di sicurezza e li portano in un’aria privata dove cercano nei bagagli e nelle scarpe. Durante lo scorso natale io e mio padre siamo stato selezionati. Ci abbiamo messo una mezz’ora ed era imbarazzante. Mi sentivo un criminale.
